Brian. I have finally got round to viewing your website. I read every word and did a closeup of all the photos. It has left me with many questions, most of which I would love to discuss with you some time soon.

You have a beautiful family. The life you had would have left many people bitter, but you seem to have overcome it and rejoice in what you now have.

God Bless you and your family.

I came across your website by accident a couple of weeks ag and was very disturbed by what I read and cannot believe that today I saw on the History Channel the programme called 'Brown Babies' and remembered your name very clearly. I have been truly moved by your story. I am also a Liverpudlian and did not realise what was happening in my city so close to me. I was born in 1955 to a working class family but had a very happy childhood surrounded by a large family who had lots of love and affection that surrounded me at all times. If only I had known that there were other children so near to me that needed to be loved and nurtured I am sure that I would have been able to do something to help. How I wish we could have helped is some way. Far better to be surounded by love than money - which was the case when children were put up for fostering. Unfortunaltely it would seem that foster parents were chosen from the midddle classes rather than the working class. I have been so touched by your story and the T.V. programme I saw today that I feel I need to help in some way - an ear to listen to, a shoulder to cry on or helping to find someones roots. Even now after all these years since your story began I feel so affected and deeply touched by your story.

I don't expect a reply but if you feel that I can help in any way please contact me.

You have a very interesting web page. I used to live in Northcote Road Liverpool and attended Northcote rd school. There were a lot of kids from the cottage homes also attending the school. I was there in the fifties and then moved on to Arnot st Secondary Modern. Some of the kids I knew were Alex Tees, James Howard (with a great singing voice), Brian Galagher. Alowah Yahah (badly treated by one certain teacher). I'm 58 yo now and have often wondered how they what happened to them. Maybe we have met in the past.

Regards,

Brian Baxter.

Having been brought up in a poor part of Liverpool, I'm far from a Conservative but it makes a refreshing change these days to hear someone saying something relatively positive about been brought up by the "state". Family life is, of course, important to children but that is never perfect as we all regret things we, as parents, do to our children. At least you never suffered material deprivation (I can remember regularly going to my nan's to borrow money to go to the chippy for tea). Your piece about punishment reminded me of the theory of my wife, who is a primary teacher, that the kids you shout at the most (which is the closet thing to corporal punishment in schools these days) are those who love you most as they feel you care. Best wishes.

Dear Brian, ( Little Brother), I spent an hour reading all about your life. It was very informative, and moving. I can't imagine what growing up without a family was like. There were times as a child I wished I had been an only child.(smile) Being the oldest of six was nerve racking at times, but had (I) we known about you....(I)we would have hounded our Dad to bring you to live with us.

I remember my Mom calling to tell me about you and then a few hours later talking to you.....It was hard to believe that I was in my 50's and just then hearing about you....It's even more shocking to learn how long you had searched for us. THANK YOU! for not giving up! We could have gone thru the rest of our lives never realizing WE were lost, that there was an important part of our family looking for us. Dad never mentioned you to any of us, not even our Mom. Aunt Bet said he mentioned having a child when he came home from the war....but she did not pay much attention and he never mentioned it again.

I wish you two had met....You would have enjoyed him. He was a real character!

I welcome you with Love! We live thousands of miles apart but you are in my heart and prayers! Meeting you was a delightful experience. I look forward to seeing you again next year. Until then, keep well, Love to all.

Your big sister,

Irita

Hi Brian read your story about 6 months ago. Great story. Revisited it today. Thought I'd contact you. I'm doing research into the UK global Lawrenson clan in the hope that it might help me better understand my own family. My family comes from the liverpool/Halewood area of Lancs. although I was born in Huddersfield.

I have created a database of over 3600 Lawrensons including most of the 1881 and 1901 Census data plus lots of LDS information.

Would you be interested to assist me with this project? I dont quite know how but you might have some ideas as you've already been involved in the family search field.

I have been in touch with two other Brians, one with a wife called Hazel. He is doing some family research in Preston and another that has links in Sth Shileds.

Regards Brian Lawrenson

Hi Brian

I just happened to find your website by chance and thought it was very moving and a fascinating story. I found it whilst searching for information on the BICC because alot of my family worked there but at the Melling site mainly. I also used to live not far from the Cottage Homes in Fazakerley, I lived in Wango Lane in Aintree and reading you story made me realise how fortunate I was as a child.

I am so glad things worked out for you in the end and the very best of luck.

Thank you for your web site. It brought back many memories of my childhood at the Cottage Homes. I was placed there in 1956 when St Edward Orphanage closed. I remember Ken Greatorex very well and I was his dog boy during my stay there. The dogs name was Dinni and he was a great football goaly the, dog I mean. Dinni used to grab hold of your foot, he would let you into the room, but he would not let you out!

I believe Social Services have a lot to answer for,as they kept no records of my mother or father and to this day I do not know anything of my parents.

I too, was fostered for for a short while. The foster parents told me I was their son and showed me photgraphs supposedly of me as a baby, obviously, this was untrue and then shortly afterwards, placed me back in care.

You were right when you said it was the money that motivated them.

The photos are great

Do you remember any of the boys names or the names of the other House mothers? My housemother was a Salvation Army Captain, I cannot recall her name.

I would be interested to know if there is to be a reunion in 2003 as I would like to attend.

I was in lodgings and Ken Greatrex was homeless, having resigned from Liverpool Social Services, because of their policies, and he shared lodgings with me. Do you know what happened to him at all?

Once again thank you for bringing back so many happy memories

You will never remember me but I was brought up in Prescot Corps and soldiered there until I entered the ITC in 1978. At the moment we are stationed at Shildon corps in the North East of England. My mum is Audrey Krelle. My auntie is Joan and married to Bill Ackerley. The photo of him was a real surprise!!

Your website is extremely interesting. Thank you for the privilege of being able to visit it.

God bless you.
